Ze is te horen op de albums Labor of Love (1983) van UB40 en From Luxury to Heartache (1986) van Culture Club. In 1986 verscheen haar debuutalbum Women Hold Up Half the Sky, dat door critici goed werd ontvangen en
ook goed werd verkocht (#47, Britse albumcharts).

Ze was ook te zien in de Amazon-serie Englishman in LA. Ze stond model voor Alison Raffaele Cosmetic en Mellow World Handbags. Ze werd uitgeroepen tot Outstanding Actress in een Comedy Web Series op het Los Angeles Web Series Festival. Sex Ed: The Series was genomineerd voor een Streamy Award en een Webby Award.

Fay Claassen studeerde van 1990 tot 1996 jazzzang aan het Koninklijk Conservatorium in Den Haag. Al tijdens haar studie werd ze twee maal onderscheiden, met een “Onderscheiding voor Uitmuntendheid”. Alom wordt ze beschouwd als een van de grootste talenten onder de jongere generaties jazzvocalisten. Onder meer Rita Reys gaf meerdere malen in interviews blijk van haar bewondering voor Claassens talent.

Op 5-jarige leeftijd begon ze met zingen in de kerk. Als jonge tiener had ze overal in de staat Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana en Oklahoma opgetreden in kerken, festivals en Opry-huizen. Karmyn nam deel aan drie staten voordat hij een staatstitel won om naar Miss America te gaan – Texas, Arkansas en Louisiana.

Leskanich begon in 2001 een solocarrière.

She is best known for her work as the frontwoman of her band Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, and for earlier founding and performing with the Runaways, which recorded and released the hit song “Cherry Bomb”. Van haar elfde tot haar negentiende volgde ze zangles bij Elisabeth Ooms. Tijdens haar middelbareschooltijd speelde ze in verschillende bandjes van haar broers en trad ze op in cafés met een pianist. Eerst nog als Mathilde Eleveld, maar later als Mathilde Santing, naar haar moeders geboortenaam.
Ze verwierf in 1981 landelijke bekendheid door haar optredens in het televisieprogramma Sonja op maandag van Sonja Barend. Haar debuut kwam het jaar daarna uit, de 10-inchplaat Mathilde Santing, met nummers van onder meer Rodgers & Hart, Haven Gillespie en Todd Rundgren.

Ze eindigde op de 6e plaats in haar halve finale en verloor de kans om zich te plaatsen voor de finale.
