Na Elizabeth I kwam eind 2006 de bioscoopfilm The Queen uit, waarin Mirren de rol van Elizabeth II, ten tijde van het overlijden van prinses Diana vertolkte. Ze kreeg voor deze rol de Oscar voor beste actrice en een Bafta. Mirren is de enige actrice die zowel Elizabeth I als Elizabeth II op het scherm heeft neergezet. Mirabel’s liefde voor acteren werd voor het eerst ontdekt toen ze 2 jaar oud was toen ze kinderliedjes in het bad uitvoerde! Op 8-jarige leeftijd won ze vervolgens een regionale poëziewedstrijd op de Drama Festivals van Bournemouth.
Als kind werkte Mirabel vooral in het theater en pas op een cursus in LA ontdekte een regisseur haar talent voor scherm, die haar vroeg om te schitteren in zijn korte film voor Sundance Film Festival. Haar eerste speelfilm ‘The Boyfriend’,
waarin ze de hoofdrol speelde, ging in première in Vue Cinema, Westfields.
Daarna voltooide ze haar opleiding aan Arts Educational Schools London.
